1) Establish what you want to achieve from your refurbishment or fitout. Make a list in point form, i.e. increase staff moral, better workflow and ergonomics, larger presence etc.
2) What feeling do you want your customers to feel while in your premises? Sit down and stay awhile or move customers through quickly, cutting edge, stability and old values etc.
3) Create a list of specifics you would like included in your fitout. For example: shelving, reception desk, reception chandelier, certain paint colours for particular walls, etc.
4) Sit down with your key decision making staff and brain storm your fitout idea’s. Discuss layouts, signage, colours, furnishings, etc.
5) Liaise with your Local Council to clarify what you can and can not do within your premises, according to their guidelines and zoning.
6) Work out the timing of your project. When do you need to have your fitout completed? Do you need to be out of the premises?
7) Establish a budget for your project and stick to it.
8) Always allow a contingency sum in your budget to cover any unknown surprises.
